THE BIBLE IS JUST A BEGINNING

  1. John 21:25
Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

John  seems to be saying that the The Bible is not the exhaustive final word on Jesus. It is just a beginning. A good starting place.

This essay is just another piece of literature written about Jesus. Just add it to the mountain of work that already exists. It is not an exhaustive final work, nor does it have any more authority than that of my own experience, and understanding of the subject.

I will try best as I can to write about what I know to date. What I write may be incomplete, fragmented, contradictory, and just plain wrong, but it is my opinion. Please bear that in mind when you read. I am not a priest or a Dogmatic zealot, nor am I one of the Religious faithful who would rather go down with the ship rather than change course, but rather, I am just a part time theologist, psychologist, philosopher and man on the street, who happens to have some ideas on the subject.

Jesus is mentioned in the Quran, (the central religious text of Islam), written in 640AD. The story of Jesus is continuously being told and retold, century after century.

JESUS EXISTS

Why do I say that Jesus does exist? It is simply because people say he does. The fact that people talk of Jesus, and that there are volumes of literature full of accounts about Jesus, is sufficient evidence to convince me that there is ‘someone’ or ‘something’ that has the label, “Jesus”. What this someone or something is is not clear. Jesus may just be a figment of imagination, but if you can think of it, then those thoughts exist, and in effect are real. Things that do not exist usually do not have this much literature attached to the subject.

Where does Jesus exist? I think he/she lives between the ears of the folk that claim to know him.

For something to ‘Exist’, it needs only to occupy time and space. That space need be nothing more than  that of ones own consciousness or understanding. The time need be nothing more than the time spent thinking about the subject.

AS I SEE IT

Jesus was a flesh and blood human being, no different than all other human human beings. What makes us unique is our Spirit, or our set of Traits. I do not believe that there exists Super Humans (or supernatural beings), or do I think that there are Sub Humans: there are only Humans. People are what they are in proportion to the Traits that they posses.

I have often heard of the ‘Spiritual Body” of Christ. You belong not to a physical material body, but to a group of like minded individuals. You share the same thoughts and drive. You are in effect part of the same family. This can be a good thing. If a lot of people all belong to the same faith, there would be a lot of security there.

  • John 4:24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

  • 1 Corinthians 3:16
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

  • 1 John 4:16
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

  •  Romans 8:14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
  • 1 Corinthians 12:13For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

. If a person has never heard of Jesus, How can they belong to the body of Christ? It is because Christ did not invent the human being, he only discovered his own humanity. He wanted to share what he had learned to others. He was not the first to teach forgiveness, and freedom from slavery and sin. He was just another messenger.

Spirit Definitions. The concept of spirit is a tricky one to understand. But an understanding is absolutely “key” to understanding what Jesus Christ is

  1. an attitude or principle that inspires, animates, or pervades thought, feeling, or action: the spirit of reform.
  2. the dominant tendency or character of anything: the spirit of the age.
  3. a person’s non-physical being, composed of their character and emotions.
  4. the immaterial intelligent or sentient part of a person
  5. the thinking, motivating, feeling part of a person, often as distinguished from the body; mind; intelligence
  6. The part of a human associated with the mind, will, and feelings: Though unable to join us today, they are with us in spirit.
  7. The essential nature of a person or group.
  8. the principle of conscious life; the vital principle in humans, animating the body or mediating between body and soul.
  9. a fundamental emotional and activating principle determining one’s character
  10. Romans 8:9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

All nerves in the physical body end in the physical brain. The physical brain controls the physical body. Thoughts control the physical brain. But where do the thoughts come from? What controls the thoughts? It is thought by many that ‘Spirit’ controls the thoughts. But where does ‘Spirit’ come from. It is also thought by many that spirit is an extension of god, God expresses itself through the spirit, which in turn forms thoughts, which in turn animate the physical body, producing emotions and action, which is the ‘Human Experience’.

You are controlled by your spirit, which is your mind and thoughts. Evil negative thoughts or spirit, will lead to suffering and death. It will lead to sin and all kinds of unhappy things. But the other side of the coin is the spirit of good. I understand Jesus to be a good man who had this altruistic spirit in abundance. You can call this spirit any name you want, but it will not change the principle behind it.

E.V.I.L…L.I.V.E. Evil is Live spelled backwards. The exact opposite of each other. The one is about death and destruction, the other is about growth and life. We can choose which path we want to follow.

SOLDERS FOR JESUS

Yet many people who have this spirit may not refer to it as Jesus. I am not  a member of any particular religion, I do not have to defend any Church Dogma, therefore I am not obligated to join in any Theological War, or become a soldier for Christ, or a defender of any particular faith. I am not obligated to believe anything at all.

I find this a desirable position to be in. I am not looking for evidence to support any established belief or understanding of Jesus, as there are many. It is the other way around. I am uncovering evidence that will lead to a belief, or understanding about what Jesus is and what Jesus was. Some claim that this train of thought is atheism. Some claim that it is agnosticism. I claim that is is just the search for truth.

In the end, in addition to having an understanding of Jesus as other people see it, I will most importantly have an understanding of Jesus as I see it. A personal relationship, as some call it. But most importantly a concept that I can understand. What good is all the knowledge of the universe, if  brought before me on a silver tray, if it makes no sense to me?

HOW I APPROACHED THIS ISSUE

First I decided to compare two Human Traits: that of Altruism and Egoism, which I would loosely compare to good and evil.

ALTRUISM

  • Consider the following definitions of Altruism.

  • 1.Regard for others, both natural and moral; devotion to the interests of others; brotherly kindness; — opposed to egoism or selfishness.

  • 2.willingness to do things which benefit other people, even if it results in disadvantage for yourself:

  • 3. Columbia Encyclopedia: altruism, concept in philosophy and psychology that holds that the interests of others, rather than of the self, can motivate an individual. The term was invented in the 19th cent. by the French philosopher Auguste Comte, who devised it as the opposite of egoism. Herbert Spencer and John Stuart Mill English contemporaries of Comte, accepted the worth of altruism but argued that the true moral aim should be the welfare of society, rather than that of individuals.

EGOISM

  • 1. philosophy pursuit of your own welfare: the practice of making personal welfare and interests a primary or sole concern, sometimes at the expense of others

  • 2. the tendency to think only about yourself and consider yourself better and more important than other people:

  • the habit of valuing everything only in reference to ones personal interest; selfishness (opposed to altruism ).

I understand  Jesus to be  Altruistic rather than egotistic. Here is a person willing to give the shirt off of his back, to go that extra mile , to help anyone he could regardless of who they were, and even give his life to help the needy. This path of Altruism is narrow indeed. Who would give of themselves so freely, if nothing was in return?

The Romans on the other hand did not give a care about who they hurt, if it met their selfish interests. Their sadistic reign of terror, (crucifixion) for example,  is evidence enough of how much disregard they had for others.

There is a definite difference in attitude between Altruists and Egotists. The one is a philosophy of helping which can mean ‘self sacrifice’ whereas the Egotists,  would gladly sacrifice the Altruist if it were to produce personal gain. I claim that Jesus was Altruistic in nature.

I see Altruism as being is good and Egoism as being bad. But also note that these things are a matter of degree. How good is ‘Good’ and how bad is ‘Bad’. Altruism and Egoism are both the extreme opposites of each other. Most people have a bit of both traits. In the course of a day, the pendulum will often swing both ways for most people.

But as we all know, the whole is but a sum of its parts. What else does the word Jesus mean?

WHAT IS SPIRIT?. (see my post on what is spirit?)

What other Traits exist other than the spirit of Altruism or Spirit of Egoism?

  1. Evil spirits
  2. Holy spirits
  3. Playful spirit
  4. Spirit of adventure
  5. Spirit of celebration
  6. Spirit of cooperation,
  7. Spirit of joy,
  8. Possessed by a spirit of misery
  9. Spirit of Inquiry
  10. Spirit of giving
  11. Waring spiritualists
  12. Peaceful spirit
  13. Spirit of love

Spirit,  being the driving force that separates me as a living entity as compared to this chair I am sitting on, is the key to understanding what it is that Jesus is. Spirit is the power that gets me to move in different directions. The spirit of Some claim that there is only one spirit but many gifts. The good spirit can make life a joy to live, the evil spirits can make life hell. Some claim that Spirits are separate and exist separately.

WHY BE CRUCIFIED

You cant put a spirit into jail or threaten a spirit with capital punishment. The Romans ruled the land by terror, and the Cross was a cruel sadistic instrument of capital punishment that was used to control the masses with fear. Jesus knew he would be executed by the Romans, he had a chance to keep quiet and take back his words and be free, but chose to follow through. Why?

It was important for him to die as a public spectacle. Why do religions put so much so much importance on the cross. I think it is because the thought of a loved one suffering evokes emotion in people. It is easy to imagine the pain and torture, and have empathy with that. A simple beheading would have been gory, but swift, and clean, and painless. Not the slow agony of the cross. But in the gospel of Peter, Jesus is described as having no pain or suffering. 4.“”But he held his peace, as though having no pain.“”

If just dying was the key to it all, then any death would have been just as good. It would not have mattered if he died on the cross or just had a heart attack. Strangulation, falling off of a cliff, being run over or eaten by wild beast or being bitten by a poison snake would have all produced death.

The cross was the most public humiliations that there was. To be put on the cross would attract attention, much like an commercial add at the super bowl would today. The most people in the least amount of time, would learn about Jesus. One word comes to mind. (Marketing). The Romans kept control over the masses, ( slaves) by enforcing their political will, by means of military intervention. You cross the line and you will be hung up to dry in public.

This is what will happen to you if you cross us. We will cause you so much pain.

Who would risk such disobedience?

Jesus, I feel, at the heart of it all, was against slavery. Mental, physical, spiritual and political. His people would never be free, if they did not break ties with those daemons, sins, and men of power who were enslaving them.

  1. Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

  2. Galatians 3:22
But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.

Slavery to the old testament law. Slavery to the Roman law. Slavery to the law of the pharisees. Slavery to sin. And slavery to the fear of being tortured and crucified. What a life that must have been. Living in constant fear of breaking some law. The law came first, and God came last, if at all.

THE CROSS

I grew up in a Lutheran Church, where great emphasis was put on the crucifixion and resurrection. I was never quite sure of what they were trying to get at, so I just forgot about it. One day, years later, I read the bible all on my own, and I got a very different message than that which I was taught.

Everywhere around the world you see crosses on churches. Its a great symbol and easy to recognize. but the cross is more than just a neat symbol, it is the actual device used by the Roman Government to terrorize and control the masses by means of painful and humiliating execution.

The crucified were nailed to a cross in full view of the public and then left to die an agonizing death. Imagine the effect that this would have on friends and family. It would have been horrific and powerful tool. Thousands were crucified at the hands of the Romans. Just another day at the office for them. I don’t know which is worse, Crucifixion or Impalement.

If the method of the day had been a guillotine, would there be guillotines up on those roofs? How about if they executed people by hanging, would there be a hangman’s noose on front of the bible instead of a cross? How about a firing squad, would people then use the phrase, “the guns of Jesus?” What if he were drawn and quartered, or died on the electric chair … and so on.

The cross being an instrument of Government Power, adds a political flavor to the story of Jesus. Would his death carry the same weight if Jesus had fallen off of a cliff out in the wilderness? How about if he was bitten by a poison snake and died? If it were so important for him just die, so that he could come back to life again, then any death would have done. Drowning, eaten by a wild animal, or even Cancer. Any death would have done, but, he needed more than just to die. It had to be at the hands of the government, and it had to be during the busiest time of the year when the ‘Most’ numbers of people would hear, and hopefully talk about it, the Passover Festival.

JESUS LIVES IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF PEOPLE

Jesus lives as spirit in the hearts of people. Maybe that is why he is so hard to find. Many are expecting some Super Star to come along and make world wide headlines, the great Rapture and the Second Coming. No one would have expected that this entity exists, in part anyways, in most people. Many of his own followers did not recognize him when he came back from the dead.

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you-unless, of course, you fail the test?

A SPIRIT CAN NOT BE LOCKED OUT

John 20:26
A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
The door was locked but he got into the house. An easy task for a Spirit.

MAYBE TOMORROW

But still many are waiting for a physical guy to show up and perhaps missing out on the Jesus that exits today. If some guy showed up today and claimed to be the son of god, would you believe him or just call the nut house?

Consider that it is possible that this entity that is called Jesus may have showed up a thousand times in your life, but you thought he was full of it, because he did not match your expectations of what a ‘Real Jesus’ should be. He can be found in peoples hearts and souls. A different face each time, but still the spirit of True altruism.  How can you do wrong,  if you are full of good?

WHAT OF THE RAISED FROM THE DEAD?

OK. Some would argue that if someone came along and did the things that the historical Jesus did, then they would not have any trouble accepting him. Things like healing the sick or raising the dead.  But he was reported to have raised Lazarus from the dead and that did not convince to many people. OK he raised himself from the dead but his closest friends did not know him either. OK, so he performed miracles, still the people who crucified him did not recognize him either. If they did not recognize him then, then what makes you think you will recognize him now.

RESURRECTION

But what is coming back from the dead. Is it a physical body being resurrected such as the Egyptian Faro, or being Reincarnated as a sacred cow as with the East Indians?

Consider these quotes from Jesus

John 5:24
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.
John 18:36
Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

What kind of death is he talking about. Lungs, Bones, Heart, Arms and Legs? Or was he talking about spirit?
Now a Quote from James.

James 2:26
As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead

DOES JESUS KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING?

  1. John 19:10 “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”
  2. John 13:7
Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
  3. Luke 23:34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

He was going to show the world that neither the law of the old testament nor the law of the Romans could enslave one who belonged to god, (which was spirit). Now people would live by the spirit. Instead of living in fear of punishment for breaking the law. The law was the law of man. It was not binding. The new way was that of spirit, not law.

He was out to make a point. He was making a demonstration of Freedom. The law had enslaved an entire nation. Disobedience to the law was punishable by torture and death. Jesus was showing the way to freedom through the spirit. The final death on the cross was to mean that the days of fearing punishment were over. So to speak the crimes of disobedience had been paid for, once and all.

Romans 7:6
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

WORD OF MOUTH

Jesus does not want to be freed, he wants to be crucified. In those days there was no Mass media.   How were people going to know what he was up to?  He needed for people to spread the message.

He chose the busiest time of year, the passover festival, so that the most number of people would be gathered in one place, and witness the event, and then hopefully, talk about it. Word of mouth was the way news spread. But most important he needed not just to die and rise again, but he needed to die at the hands of the government.

FOLLOWERS IN GOVERNMENT

Soon, everyone would be helping No slaves left to do as they are told?

  1. John 12:42
    Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;
  2. John 12:10 So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well,
  3. John 12:11 for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in him.

He had followers in high places. They could have easy turned a blind eye when the corpse was removed from the tomb. But none would admit to this.

The synagogue was a very lush comfortable life.  Not an easy choice to give up luxury (which was paid for at the expense of others)

  1. Acts 10:22
The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”

The  Roman Military (the sadistic conquerors) had god fearing men in its ranks also. Many were sympathetic to Jesus

DEATH TO LIFE

John 5:24
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

Here he talks about coming back from the dead. No mention here of a physical body coming back from the dead. He is talking a bout a spiritual death, not a physical death. A physical body  coming back from the dead was irrelevant.

  1. 1 Corinthians 6:19
    Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

  2. 1 Corinthians 5:3
Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.

  3. 1 Corinthians 3:16
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

    1 Corinthians 5:3
Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.

  4. Romans 8:15
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of son ship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
    Romans 8:14
because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
    Romans 8:11
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
    Romans 8:9
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
    Romans 8:6
    The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;
    Romans 7:6
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
    James 2:26
As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

THE DEAD SAINTS COME OUT OF THEIR  GRAVES

Matthew 27:52-53 (King James Version)

52. And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53. And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

This would have been an aw sum sight. All these dead people walking around. This would have amazed me more than just having Jesus himself come back from the dead, unless, of course, these were only spirits and not corpses who have suddenly stopped rotting and received a pulse.

The saints that arose are said to be sleeping. There is a difference between sleep and death. The one is only a loss of consciousness, The other a loss of pulse. If sleep and death are the same thing, then I die each night, only to be reincarnated each time I awake.

BUDDHA and JESUS similarities

Both these men had things in common. You might say they were both of the same spirit. A few items they had in common, (not a complete list, but only a start)

  1. They were both searchers of the truth
  2. They both passionate to teach others what they had found.
  3. Both taught similar ideas.
  4. Both were Altruistic.
  5. Both believed in a purification of the ‘mind-spirit or soul’.
  6. Both were peaceful men.
  7. Both encouraged their disciples to spread the word around the globe
  8. Both lived simple lives, in material poverty, so to speak.
  9. Both were spiritually very wealthy

Buddhist teachings were around 500 years or so before Jesus, and these teachings were carried to the west by Buddhist Monks, along the silk road , and possibly influenced the thoughts of Jesus. The Magi that visited Jesus after he was born, were likely disciples of Buddha, or Buddhist monks, who spread their wisdom and philosophy to whoever would listen. Jesus was extremely keen to learn. A genius of his day (to speak). Gifted with the powers of reason, and thought, (among other things).

Matthew 2:1 [ The Visit of the Magi ] After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem

Jesus was known to be very attentive to scripture at an early age. He was keen to learn. At the age of 12 he was interested in Scripture. This was a gifted boy.

Luke 2:46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

The truth about life, and love, and god, and sin, and all these things, is there to be discovered by anyone who cares to seek it. It is possible that Buddha teachings influenced Jesus at an early age. Then Jesus was reported to have traveled to the east , and there would have also learned much more about Buddhist philosophy, and possibly shared his own views.

But due to the 500 years that came between the two men, it is unlikely that the teachings of Jesus influenced the original Buddha. The teachings of Jesus , however, may have influenced the Buddha disciples of his own day.

You will find that Jesus is mentioned in the Quran, which was written in AD 632. So then, 600 years after his death, Jesus is (so to speak) indirectly influencing the Quran.

However, anyone with a spirit of inquiry and a dedication to the truth will come to the same conclusions as did these two men.

As I understand things, a competent teacher can speed things up a bit. You can start where they left off and save time and energy by not chasing down dead end streets. But, a teacher is not absolutely necessary. If you are a seeker of the truth, no one can stand between you and god. You have direct access.

A bit confusing, a bit like the chicken and the egg theory? What came first, the Teacher or the Student. Bottom line, it does not matter. Without the student there would never have been a teacher. But without the teacher, how can the student learn?

Life itself is the teacher. I myself am a professor from the school of ‘Hard Knocks”. I could have avoided much pain if I had only listened to those who gave me advice in the past. But I had to learn my lessons the hard way. I pass on my wisdom to anyone who cares to listen.

An interesting post by Paarsurry in this blog.

http://paarsurrey.wordpress.com/2009/04/29/why-striking-resemblance-between-the-moral-teaching-of-the-buddha-and-that-of-jesus/

NO ONE RECOGNIZED HIM

His closest friends did not recognize the physical Jesus, when he came back from the dead, which leads me to believe he came back as spirit and that this spirit can enter any body. This is more in line with what he taught. Not so heavy on the material world, but a kingdom of heaven, or pure spirit.

  1. John 20:14
“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

  2. John 21:4
Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.
    John 20:26

A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
The door was locked but he got into the house. An easy task for a Spirit..

  3. Luke 24:14-16 14They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.

Now this begs a question, “if Jesus showed up at your door today, would you recognize him?’. Would you be expecting a Flesh and Blood person to come knocking at your door? If Jesus was spirit, he would not need a door would he? So then how would you recognize him?

John 1:33
I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

Corinthians 3:16
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

JESUS TODAY

But still many are waiting for a physical guy to show up and perhaps missing out on the Jesus that exists today. If some guy showed up today and claimed to be the son of god, would you believe him or just call the nut house?

Are you waiting for a new report that says Jesus has come back. He will make the news and be a star that everyone will be in awe of? Who are you waiting for?

Jesus is in you. You hold the key, you just need to recognize what Christ is. You hold the spirit of true Altruism. You may have learned about him in books, but in the end you are the one who will be practicing the philosophy. Can you recognize what Jesus is? Can you see it in other people? If you can, then you are one of the millions of people who have found Jesus.

NOT THERE YET?

OK so you argue if he raised people from the dead I Would believe him. But he was reported to have raised Lazarus from the dead and that did not convince to many people. OK he raised himself from the dead but no one knew him. OK so he performed miracles, still the people who killed him did not recognize him.

If they did not recognize him then, then what makes you think you will recognize him now. I bet he showed up a thousand times in your life, but you thought he was full of it. He can be found in peoples hearts and souls. A different face each time, but still the spirit of True altruism.  How can you do wrong,  if you are full of good?

LITERATURE

Two thousand years ago there were only  a couple of written pieces. Today,  with the INTERNET,  we ( have more to read than one person can read in a whole lifetime.

John would have never thought it possible. but,  its here. How many pages are written about Jesus Thousands. People know him, who have never heard his name. To read the confessions of millions of Jesus believers is not possible. The bible is just a starting point to the world of altruism or Jesus teaching.

HOW DID YOU FIND JESUS?

Most people I know, found Jesus through education. They read about it and heard talk about it, and in this way thoughts and ideas begin to form in the mind. But it is also true that people found Jesus in places where books do not exist. Sometimes it is just a matter of how you understand Jesus. Remember that most people ,who read the bible, would not recognize Jesus if he sat in the same room with them. Words are  tricky serpents.
Ask yourself this, how did you find Jesus? A book, someone or someone told you? Or were you walking round in the bush and discovered Jesus? Ill bet it came by word of mouth or by print. How did you find this feeling that you call Jesus?  If Jesus is spirit, then it can enter anyone’s body. But do spirits announce themselves by name, before they enter?

WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?

Sometimes the followers of Jesus  are his worst enemies. You are a walking example . People can ‘see’ for themselves what you are about. You may talk love and selflessness with your lips, but practice greed and deceit. Just believing is half the battle, you must also do.

  • James 2:24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.

SALVATION

Many claim that we are saved through faith that Jesus died and rose again for payment of our sins. This sounds all nice, but>This only works if people know about it. Most of the people living in the last 2000 years most likely have never even heard of the name “Jesus”.

If Jesus died and rose again out in the desert with no  witnesses, would the people still have been saved.

No, someone had to spread the word. Bottom line is it does not matter if the Crucifixion ever occurred, the main point is that you believe it did. You are saved by faith in the message that was passed on to you..

If people had not passed the message along from generation to generation, we most likely would not have a concept of Jesus today. The principles that made Jesus what he was, would still exist, thou, but you would get to know them in a different way. They would have different names.

Belonging to any Altruistic movement, such as Christianity, Buddhism, Alcoholics anonymous, or even the Shiners, can be a positive experience. Everyone needs a home.

In practical terms, your mind and heart, is your home. The physical body is just the place for the spirit to dwell. The devil does not stay where he is not welcome. Its up to you. Do you want to walk the path of Jesus, and give the shirt off your back to help your fellow man? I bet you would, right after you help yourself. And remember, people who don’t even know the word “Jesus” still have the same morals, ethics, and love for fellow man than a professed Jesus follower.

The true benefits of Altruism, is that it is the opposite of evil. Evil,  which always lead to death and misery and destruction. If a person could just get rid of his self centered “I am the most important person on the planet” attitude, (or spirit) and replace it with the (spirit of love and giving) or true Altruism, just what might the effects be.

Timothy seems to have his own ideas on who gets saved and how it is to be done. It is a different story for the woman.

1 Timothy 2:15
But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

Here is one explanation of the text . Texts like this show that not all bible authors were riding on the same bus. And it shows how the Christ message is interpreted differently by different people..

To be saved from the burning fire, you must get out of the fire. It is not brain surgery. If you are a sinner, stop sinning.

SHEEP

Still If we are still arguing about if Jesus or Buddha are the true saviors, then are we not still not just missing the point? Would a rose smell any sweeter if it had a different name?

With any group of people there is the natural order leaders and followers. The ‘smart ones’ ,or the people who have learned to talk, become the sheep herders, and the ‘dumb ones’ the ones who just follow, become the sheep. And sheep often get led to slaughter. Am I still satisfied with being a follower or a sheep?

  • James 3:3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.

  • James 3:4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.

Here is an instance when the original meaning get twisted and then passed on as common knowledge. Do You want to be directed by a story that is popular, or a set of facts.

  • John 21:23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”

  • James 1:19 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

THE VIRGIN BIRTH

As I understand it, The word Virgin was mistranslated in the bible. It does not mean ‘never having had sex’, but means something closer to ..’Young Woman, or Unwed woman’

Here are a few links on the subject. I am sure that there are more.

Mary did have sex, but with who? And does that not make Jesus an illegitimate child?

It is more amazing, thou, and more probable, to me, that Jesus started at the Bottom of the Social heap, and worked his way to the top (King of the Jews, Savior of all Mankind).

As the son of God, he would have started at the top. When your start at the top, where do you go from there?

This is a classic Rags to Riches Story.
