The smarter I get, the Less I know

Adam and Eve

This story in Genesis was most likely a tale that was told to children, or Adult Children, in order to educate and inspire. I do not believe that this is an accurate description of the origins of mankind. A few things just do not add up.

This is not to say the the story did teach me anything. Sometimes ,people just get too empirical about things. Why does everything have to have a logical explanation. Science is not the only way to describe the universe. Poetry, music, and just a good old fairy tale have proven practical in teaching. Do things always have to make mathematical sense, to be of any use to us?

Having said that, I will talk about my personal interpretation of the story, (as I see it so far..).

The first chapter 1 and 2 differ in such a way as to raise some questions.

Here in chapter ‘ONE” the animals were created on the ‘5th‘ day.

  1. Genesis 1:21
So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

And on the 6th day God created Adam and Eve both together, not separate. Also the animals were already in existence ‘BEFORE’ Adam was created.

  1. Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Yet much later on in chapter two  God creates woman separately. The animals were already here, but the Woman was not.

  1. Genesis 2:18
The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

  2. Genesis 2:19
Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

  3. Genesis 2:20
So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.

  4. Genesis 2:21
So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man‘s ribs and closed up the place with flesh.

  5. Genesis 2:22
Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

It seems like chapter two was an attempt to rewrite chapter one, and things got mixed up a little bit. This just means that the author was not very meticulous with his chronological history. 3500 years ago, there was not much paper either and no computers. I doubt if moses could have made many drafts when he wrote this. If he made a mistake, he did not just crumple up the paper and start a new copy.

-If Adam was created a fully functional sexual male with reproductive qualities, that is, he had reproductive organs and produced sperm for the purpose of reproduction, for what use was this capability since there no Woman to mate with?

-If  god created animals to keep Adam company, and Adam was a fully functional sexual male, then was Adam supposed to mate with the animals, why else would Adam have sperm and 1/2 of the genetic code,  if there was no Woman to Mate with that would supply the other 1/2 of the genetic code?

-If the original Adam did not have reproductive qualities, this means that he was given them later, perhaps by the process of evolution..

-If Adam was created then he did not have a biological mother. Was he created a full grown man of 50 years old, or a boy of 12?  Did he age? How long did he live 10 years or 100,000 years.

-What did he look like? Was he black, white, oriental, Eskimo? Did he have a full grown beard when he was first formed like that of an older man, or was he smooth skinned like that of a boy?

Of course no one knows, or may ever know.

The Church of England officially Apologizes To Charles Darwin for not believing his Theory of Evolution. So for 150 years some  people were walking round in a fog, thinking that they were right. Mind boggling to say the least.

Galileo was another who had a bad time of it when he suggested that the earth was not the center of the universe. It is only a question of time before the Adam and Eve story will go the same route.

But note, that the Bible is not the “Sole Property of any particular Church or faith group. No one can claim to have the absolute correct interpretation of the bible. “. The bible at its simplest level, a collection of very old literature. Anyone can read this literature and come up with their own interpretation. The Church of England did, You probably can too

This god of Genesis could not even find a couple of naked people hiding behind a bush. Also the Almighty has got legs here and is walking around.

  1. Genesis 3:8
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

  2. Genesis 3:9
But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”

It is hard to understand that an all powerful god could create a man that could do different than he was designed to do. If Adam committed the Original sin, then it is because god wanted it to be that way. If God did not want the man to sin, then the man would be incapable of sinning. Much as man was never supposed to flap his arms and fly to the moon because man was not designed to fly by flapping his arms.

I was taught that the fall of man began with Adam who sinned by taking the forbidden Apple from Eve.

  1. Genesis 3:1[ The Fall of Man ] Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

But here according to Timothy,

1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.

So according to Timothy if Eve was the first to take the forbidden apple was not Eve responsible for the fall of man? I think that neither of them were to blame. God gave these two the power to make decisions. If god did not want them to sin, then it would have been virtually impossible for them to do so. Self deceit would not have been an issue. The deceit of the snake would not have bothered them either.

Murphy’s law basically states… “If it can happen , soon or later it will”. Sooner or later it was going to happen. Why? Because it COULD. It was just a matter of time.

  1. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
  2. Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

God created man in his own Image, and thus passed on to mankind the power to create for himself. One of the human beings most powerful trait is the ability to Imagine. Imagination is the ability that man has to

  1. to make a mental images of;

  2. form ideas or notions of;

  3. conceive in the mind;

  4. create by the imagination

Imagination is one of the most powerful functions of the human mind: to create, imagine and fantasize. After all how can you build a house or a space shuttle for that matter if you do not first “Imagine” the thing in your mind.

It is what sets man apart from all the rest of the animals in creation. His/Her powerful ability to create. It can also be one of his biggest problems. How to control that incredible power?.

Most of the tools and machinery we use today, all came from the creative minds of some person.

However, man will also imagine Gods, Demons, Boogie men and all sorts of devils that are out to get him.

At one time I imagined that there were snakes under my bed. I was afraid to go into my room. The snakes did not exist in reality, of course, but they existed in my mind. The thought, that I had created was so powerful, that it caused my body to respond with extreme fear. I had created my own devil, and I personally believed that this devil, in the form of a snake, existed under my bed, and was out to do me harm. Human imagination is very powerful, and sometimes destructive.

Man can often deceive himself with his own imagination. When Eve took the proverbial forbidden apple, she thought it was alright. Thinking it was alright in her own mind, she gave it to Adam who in his mind trusted Eve and thought that it was also alright. Both were deceived by their own conceptions.

An example. 500,000 people die each year in north America, due to smoking. That is 10 times more deaths than alcohol and drugs combined. But many smokers have convinced themselves that it is not true.

Their minds convince them that smoking is alright, it won’t hurt a bit. I know, for a fact how it is. I am a recovered smoker. If I had not awoke from that fantasy when I did, I would have become another statistic, Much like Adam and Eve.

He gave human beings the ability to deceive themselves. He gave them the power to imagine and create all kinds of nonsense in their heads. And he gave them free will, or the power to choose their conceptions over reality.

The goal of purifying the mind, is a central theme in religions, and psychology alike. To weed out the fantasy from the reality, so to speak. Lucky for us thou , that god also gave us the ability to think about our thinking. We can, if we try, sort out the real from the fake. But it is not always that easy.

Many are so deep in their psychosis, that recovery may very difficult, or impossible. Nothing short of a “Spiritual Awakening” can save them. This is usually an experience that is so powerful, that it will change a persons entire state of mind, as if being hit by a bolt of lightning. Top

The blame game all started here. Eve blames the snake, and Adam blames Eve, and God blames Adam.

It may be true that sin all started with Adam and Eve but ‘YOU’ keep it going. It is not their fault you sin, it is yours. Stop the blame game.

  1. Genesis 3:13
Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

  2. Genesis 3:12
The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

  3. Genesis 3:17
To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.

(Was Adam supposed to be a Farmer or a Hunter, A Vegetarian or a Carnivore.)

  1. Genesis 2:15
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

I see a persons digestive tract, as possibly being the actual serpent of the genesis bible story. If stretched out end to end, it would be 32 foot long, with a head at one end and a tail at the other.

I think that the first sin to be committed by man was that of Gluttony? ? Food is necessary for survival, but what type of food. Today we know, at least partly, how different nutrients affect a persons mood, and feeling of wellbeing.

The serpent, stomach, does not speak in words, such as the English language, Hebrew, or German. It speaks chemically. When you are hungry, your serpent tells you you must go and eat something. You know that you can not eat poison, but if you have been deceived by your own imagination, you may consume poison and die.

What if the Tree of life were an animal. Only living things can have life. A rock has no life, no soul, and most of all no knowledge. But an animal does have intelligence, or knowledge. Even the barn cats at work seem to have a spirit about them. They know things. They are alive, They have a society amongst themselves, they raise their young, they have a sense of humor, they play, they are kind and affectionate to each other. In many ways animals are as humans, with one exception: they do not have as advanced ability to imagine or create.

Were the animals supposed to be friends and company, or dinner for the evening?

What if man began to kill animals and consume their flesh.

  1. Genesis 3:21
The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

Does this passage mean that the clothing made form skins were just given to Adam And Eve, or did Adam and eve Kill the animal and then skin it to make the clothes? It could be that the lord worked his wonders through Adam and Eve and the death of the animals were actually Gods own work. It is widely thought that Only god has the power to decide who is to live or die? Therefore Man is just a channel for gods will.

Adam and Eve, (Humans) became a hunters and instead of eating antioxidant rich plant food , became carnivores, killing the animals and making clothes from the skins, much as a Neanderthal would. Now that he was full of their flesh, he might as well wear their fur also.

I tend to think that Man was thrown out of the garden of Eden, not physically, but chemically. When he was eating fresh fruits laden with antioxidants, and eating various magic mushrooms, and chewing on herbs and other forms of plant life, he was living in a world of chemical bliss. It is likely that with a perfect diet of everything that a body could possible use, he could have lived forever.

When he started to eat flesh, his body began to die from malnutrition. If you do not believe this, go on a straight meat diet for a few months. I have tried this and started to develop all kinds of medical problems.

Man , as I see it, was forbidden to kill the animals in the garden. He chose to become a carnivore, therefore god had no choice but to let him live like one.

Still , god originally gave man the choice, and the ability to deceive himself, so the fall of man is still on gods shoulders.

Up to that point, only god chose who was to live or who was to die. Now that man had learned to kill, man was like god, deciding who was to live and who was to die. But it was God who originally gave man the option.
